Last school year, as a high school sophomore, I heard a lot of hype about a book called “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”. I was very anxious to read it as my sustained silent reading book, because I kept hearing great things about the novel. However, my school’s library did not have it in stock… Our librarian claimed it to be stolen or lost… Or something along those lines. So I carried on with the rest of my day, worried that I would be unable to find a book to read for my English class’s sustained silent reading time. So, I consulted a friend. She then proceeded to tell me about another great book she’d heard about: “The Catcher in the Rye”. She heard it was a good book, and very relatable in terms of internal conflicts. Anyways, she’d heard from a friend that the book’s protagonist was also an outsider like in Perks (which I am highly unsure about because I still haven’t read the book) so it could be a similar story. I, too, had heard great things about the novel, and so I decided to give Mr. Holden Caulfield a chance. … And I absolutely fell in love. “The Catcher in the Rye” is one of those breathtaking books that you cannot let go off. My eyes were glued to that old book. (It had that old book smell, which made everything 10 times more enjoyable). It was a tiny ittle red book with a tiny little font with the most impacting little characters you will ever get to know. From Allie’s story to Phoebe’s and Holden’s relationship, to Holden’s internal conflicts… I am so glad I came across this book. I am so happy that I got hooked. Everyone… You need to read this book. Your perspective on life will change, you will fall in love with Holden Caulfield and his snarky little personality, and you will be absolutely amazed. Yes. This book is quite amazing. It’s the ultimate story of an outsider who just wants to find his place in the world… And it could not have been written more perfectly.
